Membership
Requirements
Applies
to all volunteer members (business membership):
- At least 18 years of age or older
- A junior membership that
carries restrictions is permitted for applicants at least 16 years old.
Applicants must provide written permission from a parent/guardian to
volunteer and secure working papers prior to application.
- Officially reside in New Jersey
- An exemption is made for
students enrolled in The College of New Jersey living in campus housing
or a residence in Ewing while attending college.
- Satisfy the requirements for
employment with Ewing Township
- This includes an independent
medical examination and drug test
- Provide complete and truthful
information throughout the application process.
- Consent to a driver's license and
criminal background check at any time during application or membership.
- Be willing to commit time and
effort on a regular basis toward volunteer responsibilities.
Additional
requirements for firefighter membership:
- Be physically able to perform the
functions of a firefighter
- Be able to complete basic
firefighter training
Additional
requirements for first aid unit membership:
- Be able to complete training and
be certified by the State of NJ as an EMT-Basic which includes
- Becoming certified in health
professional-level CPR
- Be physically able to perform
the functions of an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic
- Read, write, and speak English
- Having an acceptable criminal
background check consistent with N.J.A.C. 8:40A-6.2. Applicants of
concern include those:
- Accepted into a pre-trial
intervention, conditional discharge, or other diversionary program
- Convicted of
- Any crime;
- Any disorderly persons
offense; and/or
- A petty disorderly
persons offense involving the possession, utilization, sale, and/or
distribution of any controlled dangerous substance; representing a risk
of harm or health, safety or welfare of patients; and/or involving
patient abuse or patient neglect.
